His Christmas Bride Mills Boon Modern Dinner at 8 Book 15 eBook Helen Brooks Reviews
I loved this book, but hated, hated, hated the name Blossom.
I got over the name by changing it to Rose, because Zak got her roses with a bee on it.
This was a long awaited book that never strayed from the great books Ms Brooks has written in the past.
ten out of ten.
Blossom is a career woman. Problem is, she really doesn't want to be. But circumstance in the past has made her so very unsure of herself and her judgment (and all men) that she has decided that she only wants her own company.
Enter Zak - beautiful brilliant british billionaire (how's that for alliteration?) - who has decided that Blossom might make one more B for his title. Anyhow, for whatever reason, he wants Blossom.
At first, I thought the book might be about him wanting the challenge of the woman who doesn't want a man, then falling in love despite himself. But it is not. It is full of surprises and self discovery and true romance. Well worth the few hours read!

[a pseudonym of Rita Bradshaw].
Blossom, a woman who was irreparably hurt by her ex, and Zak, a playboy according to the tabloids, find each other drawn together. Blossom, a twin and photographer, has to step in and take care of her sister's two sets of twins when the sister has a health emergency. While taking care of the kids Blossom meets her brother-in-law's boss. He falls in love instantly and fights to get her to feel the same toward him. Blossom is still healing her wounds from her failed marriage and fights the attraction and her building feelings with all she's got. Her ex is a model who used her and her connections to build a career, seven months into the marriage he leaves her for a woman he was dating before and during the marriage, he also remembers to steal all her money. All through the marriage she thought all was perfect and now doesn't trust herself to let herself feel. No matter what Zak does, she fights, doesn't let him in.
Finally, she gets a job offer in America that would take her away for 3 months. She sees it as the perfect way out. Zak does what he can to persuade her to stay and love him back but she refuses. He walks out as she crumbles to the floor, feeling the disparity of her actions. She does take the job offer but suffers through it. She is so wretched that she barely eats or sleeps, always thinking about him. In the 3 months she looses four dress sizes, finally getting to that size 10 that she has been coveting for years. [finally a heroine that is more of a normal American].
After the 3 months she is a ghost of herself. When she arrives back home, Zak is there to pick her up instead of her sister. He takes her to his house, while she is too weak to argue. Everything catches up with her and she spends most of the next few days asleep, frightening all those who care for her. On Christmas eve she is finally better and after talking a bit with Zak she tells him she loves him and they decide to get married. The wedding was right around the New Year.
If permitted minus-stars I would give this one 5 minus stars.
The hero barges in on the heroine when she is exhausted caring for two sets of twins and insists on her attention. Then he pressures and harrasses her into finally going out to dinner with him after barging in on the family again the next day, and demanding that the heroine wait on him and make him coffee.
She makes it clear that she doesn't wish to pursue things with him further. She gets her family to promise not to pass on her contact details or the circumstances of her first marriage.
Then he turns up on her doorstep having had her investigated (her family having refused to pass on the information, even though he employs one of them).....at this point I stopped reading (I'm about 20 percent it) and had a look at the book reviews and discovered the book gets worse and worse.
If you have any issues with stalking, sexual harrassment, bullying or with personal autonomy being trespassed upon, I strongly recommend avoiding this book. I found it quite distressing and disturbing. That this is published as a romance in this day and age (as opposed to a sad book where the heroine ends up murdered) I find completely freaky.
Great writing. The main characters are amazing. Great storyline .
